Top Flite is a brand of remote control airplanes that are designed and marketed to the RC hobby marketplace. The brand is owned and managed by Hobbico, Inc. (a.k.a Great Plains Model, Tower Hobbies) of Champlain, Illinois in the USA.
All of the brand's products are constructed of balsa wood and plywood and are coated with the typical choices in the industry for plastic airframe coatings. The airframes are all in the medium range of RC airplane sizes and range in wingspans of 50 inches to 90 inches with a few larger exceptions.
Top Flite kits fall into two major categories as they relate to the RC specific industry: the Gold Edition Kits and the Gold Edition ARFs. The two trim levels refer to the completion level of the kits. Gold Edition Kits require 100% assembly by the modeler while ARFs come with their major airframe components (fuselage, main wing, tail) all assembled and coated requiring the modeler to install the power system and radio gear. Kits in both groups require the modeler to purchase his/her power system and radio gear separately from the model.
The Top Flite brand is full of nicely done models that are typically from the World War II era of aviation. The brand's warbird collection includes such famous names in flight as the P-51 Mustang, the F4-U Corsair, the AT-6 Texan, B-25 Mitchell, P-40 Warhawk, P-47 Thunderbolt, among others.
The brand's other aircraft consist of entries from the general aviation and air travel industries. Kits include the Douglass DC-3, the Cessna 182 Skylane, the twin Cessna 310, and the massive 101-inch Stinson Reliant.
Top Flite branded RC airplane kits as well as the appropriate power systems and radio gear can be purchased through the Great Planes network of online and retail hobby shops around the world.
